I didn’t stay up to pass under the Blue Water Bridge . . .  because we did that at 0100ish . . . and morning brought this feeling of space travel.  Since we traveled the international line across Huron, this was the same sense of infinity all day.

Before daybreak the next day, we entered the St Marys at Detour;  sunrise had us off Sugar Island nearly to the Soo.

Then there was plenty to see, like Erieborg bound for Ireland from Duluth.

I’d love a tour some day of one of these small sparse general cargo vessels.

Next up and bound for the steel mills in northern Indiana was

Mesabi Miner.

Given all the work going on for the not-so-soon to be new super lock at the Soo, General and Champion and lots more equipment is present.  I believe these tugs belong to the DuRocher/Kokosing fleet.

Iowa (1915!!) and Wyoming (1929!) are at the ready, as is USCGC Katmai Bay.

Edgar B. Speer was down bound…

with more ore for northern Indiana, US largest steel-making state.
