Forecast for the morning after the Oscars was for some sun, which I sorely needed. And who’s out . . . William Oscar aka W. O. Decker, for starters.
CCNI Aquiles and Dallas Express at Global . . . and a Moose boat racing toward us.
I couldn’t quite figure out what Sorensen Miller‘s load was. In the background, that’s the Newark Bay Bridge, which doesn’t make it on my fotos much.
Virginia Sue was fishing off Clermont.
John P. Brown moved nine (?) railcars from Brooklyn to Jersey.
Clipper Legacy arrived here yesterday.
Shawn Miller‘s pushing trucks around again, this one all ready for the mid-March holiday.
Taurus light moves past Christine McAllister.
And . . . let’s conclude with another shot of William Oscar, wherever it may be heading.
All fotos this morning before the clouds moved in . . . by Will Van Dorp.
Gabby L. Miller is only three years old.
Built right here in the sixth boro,
she just might grow into . . . something larger than her 25′ loa x 13 and 660 hp.
Notice the crew quarters under the house? Gabby first appeared on this blog last Labor Day.
Below, Mark Miller, a utility boat I’ve never seen closer than this, has dimensions of 65′ x 18 with 185 hp.
Sorensen is Miller’s largest crewboat: 110′ x 25 with 2040 hp.
It’s Miller’s Launch time.
Fotos by Will Van Dorp.
Samantha and Susan Miller position the barge before the spud, lowered to the bottom of the harbor by a barge crane, pegs it in position. The Miller vessels operate as a pair although this fishing is not pair trawling.
Here’s a close-up of Samantha,
and Susan and part of the crane
and a close-up of the ladder. Ladder? And a diver (bent over) preparing to descend on the prey.
So, just what might they be trying to fish out of the East River? Something large and metallic mayhaps, like a surface vessel turned submarine? Here’s the complete fishing rig.
Unrelated foto below . . .
shows a Miller cousin, Sorensen, ex-Joseph McCall. More fotos on Sorensen here. Click on”more photos” on upper left. More Miller boats here.
