Non-Random Tugs 12

The idea of recent posts in this series is to look at a single fleet.

As temperatures cool off, my perception is that demand for fuels rises, especially in the Northeast.  Let’s look at the Reinauer fleet, starting with a light Nicole.

Haggerty Girls exited the KVK into the Upper Bay a few days back.

Random Tugs 287

It’s hard to believe that this title has come up 286 times before today, but here they all are.  And yet, I’m starting out with a photo of Ellen McAllister, who herself has appeared here hundreds of times, but never quite like this, heading into the  dawn and about to pass an unidentifiable Vane tugboat.

Ditto Pegasus, passing between a Bouchard tug to the left and some Centerline boats to the right, and below that ONE container on the bridge and the Fedex plane in the sky.

Double Skin 57 and Long Island, previously Peter F. Gellatly,  moves a barge past IMTT, where some Reinauer boats–RTC 103 and Morgan— are taking on product.

Potomac gets an assist from Fort Schuyler.

Ava M. McAllister passes UACC Ibn Al Haitham, where Genesis Victory is lightering and Liz Vinik assisting.

On another morning, Fort Schuyler heads for the Upper Bay, and that looks like Kristin Poling in the distance to the left.

And where Meredith C. Reinauer is lightering Marvin Faith, Bouchard’s Linda Lee, Ellen S., and Evening Breeze look on.

All photos recently by WVD,who had to look up the namesake of the UACC crude carrier.   He turns out to be a Basra-born scientist from a millenium (!!) ago.  That link is worth a read.

 

Random Tugs 219

Suppose we go back to “random tugs 2,” which was 10 years and two and a half months ago.  What might be the same?  Answer follows.  These photos I took last week.  Alex and Capt. Brian were not around when I did the #2 post.

Craig Eric Reinauer was, but the barge RTC 103 likely was not.

In 2007, Diane B had a different name and was a Kirby machine.  Now she’s a creek-specialist and pushing John Blanche.

Here’s the best photo I got of Millville and 1964, the newest unit most likely to pass through the harbor.

Emerald Coast heads westbound.

Oleander passes Normandy.  Anyone know why Bermuda Islander (I got no photo.) was in town last week?

And Evening Tide is eastbound in the KVK.  So just by chance, if you look at Random Tugs 2, Evening Tide is there as well.

Barge Bows

Five years ago I did this post about barge names.  Here are some bows I’ve looked at recently, including this one that speaks to winter in the sixth boro.  When I started looking up vintage, I was surprised.  RTC 61 launched from Rhode Island in Sept. 2010.

RTC 502, Texas, March 1976.    Notice the Vane barge with yellow trim between RTC 502 and the red ship?

Coincidentally, Magothy is pushing Doubleskin 502, July 2008 out of Jeffersonville, Indiana.

Doubleskin 31 . ..  Baltimore 1999.

DBL 140 . .  Wisconsin December 1999.

The hull looks different full v. empty.

Scrap scow SMM 203 . . . I have no clue.
