Daisy Mae . . . time flies and this 82′ x 30′ and 3200 hp boat has been around since 2017 already.
Crystal Cutler, 67′ x 26′ and 1500 hp, I remember when she first arrived in the boro. I mist be getting old here.
Evelyn Cutler, 117′ x 32′ and 3900 . . . I recall when she was Melvin E. Lemmerhirt.
Discovery Coast, 96′ x 34′ and 3000 hp . . . she’s been around by that name since leaving the shipyard a decade ago.
Capt. Brian A. McAllister, 100′ x 40′ and 6770 hp . . . half a decade here.
Brian Nicholas, 72′ x 23′ and 1700 hp, I never saw her as Banda Sea, although I saw many other Seas.
Charles James, 77′ x 26 and 2400 hp . . . I recall her as Megan McAllister.
Navigator, 64′ x 24′ and 1200hp**, arrived here as that. Saint Emilion . . .105′ x 38′ and 4800hp, I’ve known her as Arabian Sea and Barbara C before that, and this blog has been doing this since before she was launched.

I took it from the Mississippi River in November 2016; Coastal 303 was later to become Southern Dawn and then Caroline McKee, depicted above. Does anyone know the story of the snapped mast?

Lightning is here and has been for at least four years, and Thunder is on its way.
From 2014 and therefore two years newer than Lightning, Adeline Marie, previously Denise A. Bouchard, was heading over to the Industry Day on Wednesday. I caught a few photos of her as Rubia in between her original and her latest livery.
The 2006 Kristin Poling first came to the sixth boro as the 5000 hp 111′ x 36′ Chesapeake. Here was my first good view of her as a Poling/Cutler tugboat.
Atlantic Enterprise has been keeping busy with runs with dredge spoils from the North River passenger terminal out to the dump site aka HARS. For a day’s worth of reading, click here for a July 2022 report on HARS.
The 1981 Susan Miller pushes a small deck barge through congested waters here. She’s been working in the boro for as long as I’ve been doing this blog.
The 1968 Marie J. Turecamo has worked in the Moran livery for over 20 years.
Scale is clear from this side-by-side photo of the 2007 Saint Emilion (105′ x 38′ and 4800 hp) and the 1982 McCormack Boys ( 74′ x 26′ and 1200 hp), both hauled out over at Bayonne Dry Dock.
The 2007 Normandy (79′ x 27′ and 1900 hp) has been in the boro since 2015.
The 1981 Navigator (64′ x 24′ and 1200 hp) has to be one among the busiest boats in the harbor and the region.
The 1975 Mary Emma (100′ x 31′ and 3900 hp) has worked under this livery since 2021. I caught her transformation here about a year ago.

It’s hard settling back into the blog after being in steamy alligatorland for most of the month, and didn’t even expect to be suddenly back. So my solution, the ether in my air intake, so to speak, is to just somewhat randomly choose and post photos I took in Junes from 2012 through 2016.
Starting with June 2012, behold Sam M and
Buchanan 1. I recall learning that Sam M made its way to Alaska, and Buchanan 1 . . . to the Rondout. Would you consider Sam M to be a lugger tug?
June 2013 took me to Philly a few times, where I got photos of Madeline and Captain Harry in the distance and
Sentry pulling El Rey, San Juan bound. The two Wilmington Tug vessels still work the Delaware River, whereas Sentry–last I read–flies the Bolivian flag. I should get down to Philly again one of these days.
In 2014 it’s Navigator and
Sabine. Navigator is still based in the sixth boro and Sabine is in the GOM.
In 2015, it’s Stephen B–still in the sixth boro–and
Evening Star, along with Wavertree during her makeover. Stephen B still works out of the boro by that name although Evening Star now has started working out of the boro again as Jordan Rose.
And 2016, it’s Eric McAllister and
a newly arrived Jonathan C Moran. Jonathan is still here, but Eric is in Baltimore.

Count them . . . at least four very different vessels: Saint Emilion with barge, JRT waiting to assist, Grace D shuttling people and supplies, and a sloop.

Yes, I’m back to that trawler. It’s called Briney Bus out of Miami, but besides that, I don’t know much. My guess is that, like many boats, it’s heading for the NYS Canal system, which opened two days ago.

Location 2. Tug Rachel is with this
unusual looking cargo ship, Lihue.
Viking pushes southbound past Castle Rock and
Comet northbound along the Hudson River.
Near the west end of the East River, it’s C. Angelo and
near the east end, it’s Navigator with GT Bulkmaster heading west and Ellen McAllister, east.
Working near the TZ Bridge some years back, it’s Tappan Zee II.
And finally, on the northern end of Lake Huron, it’s Avenger IV
heading for the Soo.
To answer the first question, that’s Coney Island with the Goethals Bridge and Linden refinery in the background, making this the Elizabeth River in Elizabethport NJ.
And the second question, it’s Seattle. Photo thanks to Kyle Stubbs. Lihue, ex-President Hoover III, ex-Thomas E. Cuffe, 1971, may be at the end of Rachel‘s towline along the coast of Oregon, heading for the Panama Canal and then . . . Texas for scrap. She’s probably the last of LASH (C8-S-81e) vessels built, along with President Tyler IV and President Grant V, scrapped more than 10 years ago. She’s been a survivor.
