More old steel today and all from Jan van der Doe. I posted a stern view of the vessel below a few days ago . . . here’s more of the story, as much as I understand. Between 1944 and 1990, it had German, Belgian, and Dutch owners, both governmental and private. Since 1990, it’s been owned by Americans who keep it in Rotterdam.

might be in greater jeopardy. Florence M, Tony MacKay, and James A. Hannah have all been on this blog before, and with some of the same company. One of these days, they may no longer be there, and they may no longer BE.
I gather these are Carrol C 1 and Bonnie B. from that same 2015 post.
Molly M I works for Nadro Marine and was built in 1962.
William is the name and Bermingham is the company here, and she’s almost 80 years old. Unrelated: What material is stored in the domes?

Delta is the best Christmas red. I can’t seem to find a tugboat in the NMFS.NOAA registry called just “Delta.” Someone help out?
Richie Ryden took these photos just before New Year’s, sending them along with the note “I took these pic’s on 12/28/16 on the Hackensack River between Rt 3 east & west Bridges , It looks like they a are rebuilding the marina there !!! I saw Reliable from Coastline Marine Towing out of Belford NJ switching barges empty for a full one with old pilings on it ! look at your blog all the time keep up the good work !!!! Happy New Year !!!!”
Happy New Year, Richie! And I have to admit I can find nothing about previous owners of Reliable also, although the late great John Skelson had a photo of her from a while back sans the upper house here. Richie’s photos also helped solidify my image of what this vessel looks like compared with another Reliable that languishes up on the Oswego Canal.
Jed sent me this photo just after the start of 2017 with the note “Happy New Year from Maryland. Here is your first tug of 2017, the ten-year-old Belgian Union Grizzly that I saw on the Scheldt in 2012.” Thx Jed. And since that time, she’s sent a half dozen more photos of European tugboats, which I’ll post soon.
And Tyler Jones must be losing his patience: he sent me this photo back on November 1, and I still have not put it up. What I love about this photo, Tyler, is the fog giving the impression that Coral Coast pushing a cement barge upriver at Poughkeepsie is weightless, floating lazily on the clouds. Thx much, Tyler.
Jan van der Doe periodically sends me photos from Canadian Lake Ontario ports. He didn’t identify this boat although I’m wondering if it’s Lac Manitoba, which capsized on the Ottawa River back in June 2015.
In Hamilton harbor, here’s (l to r) Florence M, Tony Mackay, and James A. Hannah. Hannah is a sister of Bloxom, the cover model for my documentary about the Arthur Kill graveyard and the most intact tugboat in the graveyard on the Arthur Kill.

I got this photo in July 2003 in Oswego, the 1943 Bushey tug WYTM-71 Apalachee. I haven’t seen it since, although it was at one time in Cleveland. Anyone know if it’s still there?
Here’s another Great Lakes tug, for now. This photo of James A. Hannah was taken by Jan van der Doe in Hamilton harbor in late May 2015. I posted it here then in this larger context. And here in February 2012, thanks to Isaac Pennock. Now I knew that James (LT-820, launched July 1945) was a sister to Bloxom (LT-653) and that the Hannah fleet had been sold off in 2009 in a US Marshal’s sale, but I hadn’t known until yesterday that the CEO of the Hannah fleet–Donald C. Hannah–was Daryl C. Hannah’s father!! That Daryl Hannah! But it gets even better, there once was a towboat named Daryl C. Hannah! Anyone know what became of it? Last I could find, it was on the bank of the Calumet River used as an office. Updates?
As you can tell, this photo was taken in the East River. It was July 2009 that Marjorie B. McAllister escorts Atlantic Superior as it heads for sea. Any ideas where Atlantic Superior is today? Actually, I know this one . . . after a long and eventful life, she powered herself over to China this year to be scrapped.
I haven’t seen Bismarck Sea here in quite a while, but last I knew, she was operating in the Pacific Northwest.
King Philip . . . went to Ecuador around 2012; Patriot Service is still working in the Gulf of Mexico, I believe.

This latter (rightmost) tugboat has appeared on tugster before, and in fact is a sibling of Captain Bob (in the Columbia) and Bloxom, the faded red tugboat on the cover of our 30-minute documentary film Graves of Arthur Kill. This looks like two old but active boats, Lac Manitoba and Vigilant I, both of Nadro Marine.
And finally, Jan didn’t pass along info on the black hulled vessel to the left. Pacific Standard . . . ex-Irishman (?) is my guess.
I visited Hamilton twice 50 or more years ago to visit a relative there. I recall not liking the city. But what does a kid know? Jan’s photos in this post and tugboathunter’s here inspire me to consider a return there.
