I last used this title a half year ago.  I claim no relationship between the fotos other than they were all taken on the sixth boro within the past week or so.

First, a poor quality but intriguing foto of MSC Aniello, a container ship, bound for sea with nary a container above the deck.  Who knows what she carried below?  The white cranes are a mile beyond the vessel in the port of Bayonne.  Does one need a better indicator of economic slowdown?  Aniello as canary in the coal mine?

You may once have ridden in these subway cars now bound for a new life as a reef somewhere offshore.  Click here to read an overheard romance post I wrote about reefing last August.

Check this out as tandem tugging:  Clyde in foreground lashed to Harry McNeal, (to use one of my newest favorite phrases), the yin and yang of indie tugs.

The foto below shows the Mohawk River at Rotterdam Junction, where Onrust may tomorrow splash.  Cross fingers;  hope to post on this tomorrow.

Another poor quality foto taken of Cable Queen just west of the Moran yard in the KVK.  Anyone know her story?

Finally here’s a closer foto of 1930 Elco motor yacht Justice westbound on the East river alongside Roosevelt Island.  I saw Justice last October, but thinking it the replica Manhattan, I didn’t take a foto until it was quite a distance off.

Kudos to Harold E. Tartell for correctly identifying the “mystery tug” in RT 32 as  Harry McNeal.  I took the foto below at Howland’s Hook May 2008.   (McNeal …Louisiana 1965.)

Here are more.  Weeks’ Virginia, who positioned in the plane-receiving barge about two weeks ago, Ocean   (Virginia …Louisiana 1979, ex-Bayou Babe or “By you, b’abe” )

Peter F. Gellatly raced southbound in the Arthur Kill just yesterday, a new vessel to my eyes,  (Peter F. …Louisiana 2008)

Hornbeck’s Brooklyn Service–another new vessel for me– headed north on Thursday,  (Brooklyn …Louisiana 1975, ex-Peggy Sheridan),

Dann Ocean Towing’s Allie B has done a lot of work in the boro this winter,  (Allie B …built Louisiana 1977, ex-Express Explorer)

Henry Marine Service Dorothy J headed westbound in the KVK a week or so ago, (Dorothy J …Louisiana 1982, ex Angela M)

as did Mary H,   (Mary H …Louisiana 1981)

as well as Sea Bear,   (Sea Bear …Illinois!  1990, ex-Bay Star)

and a far-off shot of Baltic Sea, 11:09 am the other day, upbound North River.  (Baltic …of course, Louisiana 1973, ex-S/R Albany and ex-Tahchee).  Anyone upriver have fotos of Baltic breaking ice upriver?

Please check out the history blog bowsprite and I collaborate on to mark the 400th anniversary of  Henry Hudson’s memorable trip through our boro.  Primary and secondary sources coupled with imagination’s license generate Henry’s Obsession.  A new post about a January 1609 non-random web of characters in Amsterdam has gone up today.

Stapleton Service (ex-New Haven, 1966) assists at dawn. She was in the distance in the “Crazy Patterns” post.

Labrador Sea (ex-Sea Bull built 2002) passing Tauranga Star, possibly offloading bananas from Ecuador,

Robert IV (1971) southbound on Arthur Kill past the wheels of the Howland Hook cranes.

Janice Ann Reinauer (1966) pushes oil eastbound as the setting sun illuminates Bayonne cranes,

And Harry McNeal (1965) pushing  a construction barge eastbound.

I’d never seen this unnamed yellow tug, eastbound on East River, before just over a week ago, unless the yellow covers some familiar red or green. Can anyone Identify it?

More that happened by . . . Yemitzis, 1954, out of Staten Island, up close and Maryland, 1962, also out of Staten Island farther off.

Harry McNeal, 1965, out of Perth Amboy, I don’t recall seeing before either . . .

Sea Wolf, 1982, New York, sibling of Sea Lion pictured here though you need to scroll past mermaids and serpents. (Oh, yes about 40 days away!!)

Vivian L. Roehrig, 1961, Glen Cove, NY, also ex-Peter M. and H. D. Campbell.

Jenny Anne, 1958, out of Hoboken, with an incomparable paint scheme and shifts in identity, ex-Buras Lady, Harbor Lights, John O Seahorse, Gaby Lynn Gisclair.

And nary a red or green or red & green in the lot. Let me end with a question also: what has become of Hackensack, pictured below at the 2006 NYC tugboat race? Don’t tell me it’s now red/green?
