A few photos from the recent week . . . like Cape Fear heading over to Gowanus Bay and
Miss Madeline coming from there, passing the KV buoy and
more . . ..
Notice anything unusual but entirely understandable about the photo immediately below?
The barge is the 80,000 bbl Edwin A. Poling and the
tug is Saint Emilion, usually mated with barge A87.
All photos, WVD, who will be inland and rolling on the rails most of the month of March….
Five tugs are grouped in the photo below.
Let’s follow these two.
Ava and Ellen are off to assist a tanker into a berth at IMTT.
Shortly afterward, Kimberly Poling passed by with Noelle Cutler and
Evelyn Cutler followed
with Edwin A. Poling.
Beyond Energy Centaur, that would be Kimberly heading upriver.
Meanwhile, Ellen and Ava muscle Lillesand into her berth.
All photos, WVD.
Unrelated: Ever Forward, the more distant vessel here, is currently aground in the Chesapeake, for some reason outside the channel since Sunday night. She was headed from Baltimore to Norfolk and then would have come to the sixth boro of NYC. Speaking of tugs, watch this story evolve, since large tugs may be necessary to get her off. If you have 17 minutes to spare, here’s Dr. Sal.
Here’s a new one, Stephen B with

James Joseph. I’ve not seen Stephen B with that barge in quite a while. Maybe I just have not been looking carefully.

Kristin Poling

is moving Eva Leigh Cutler. When we’re past the first of November, usually the number of barges increases, even if the outdoor temperatures are in the 70s.

Mister Jim, for the first time that I’ve noticed,

has a bunker barge, this one Richardson Sea, a Centerline Logistics barge.

Evelyn Cutler was moving a fully loaded Edwin A. Poling.

Genesis Eagle

had a deeply loaded GM 11103.

And finally for now, RTC 80

gets moved through the Kills with Kristy Ann.

All photos, WVD.
The 1963 Patricia is always a head-turner, and she was especially so the other morning. The longer I look at the photo below, the more I imagine it framed.
Her throaty sound catches the ear as well. Am I mistaken or has that color scheme changed a bit?
Carolina Coast makes the sugar run all year round, but that billowing spinnaker clearly states the season.
Nathan G has been spending a lot of time of late on runs outside the VZ Bridge.
Here, a busy distant Bayonne port as seen from Owls Head, is Genesis Victory with barge GM 6506 and a very busy background, as
she gets assisted into a lightening position by Pegasus.
James D. Moran escorts a quite empty Leo C.
toward Port Elizabeth.
Discovery Coast here takes on Edwin A. Poling. It amazes me that the sylvan shoreline beyond the unit is actually in New York City and masks a dense residential area.
Moments before she was headed in from an anchorage area.
All photos by Will Van Dorp, who favors another shot of Patricia.
A lot of time has elapsed since this first installment of this series here.
Here Evelyn pushes north with Edwin A. Poling loaded.
And not even a few hours later, Kimberly headed southbound in the same location with Noelle.
All those photos above date from mid-October, but a few days ago, I caught Crystal
crossing the sixth boro with Patricia.
All photos by Will Van Dorp, who understands the need to upgrade, but I still miss the gravitas of the old Kristin Poling and the Queen.
I’ve done posts with titles like 15 minutes or 18 . . . but here’s a set shot in just three minutes, just after that strange cloud–comet’s tail?–passed the day the temps went up to 65 midday for a few hours, setting a NYC record for that day.
Here’s Jonathan C from head-on, with Shooters Island off the stern.
Zooming out shows Pegasus and Kimberly Poling using Edwin A. Poling, and the cranes at Howland Hook.
It looks like some refinishing is happening on Pegasus.
Mary H pushes Patriot heading the other direction.
That church in a lot of photos is Immaculate Heart in Elizabeth NJ.
All photos by Will Van Dorp.
First time photo of this tugboat underway . . . Stephen B pushing James Joseph. AND first time photo on this blog by Glen Dauphin, whose work I have admired on FB.
If I’m not mistaken, this is the same tug–previous name–and sans upper wheelhouse. I took the photo on New Years Day.
Haggerty Girls and RTC 107, with an assist from Matthews Tibbetts . . . getting underway.
Franklin Reinauer pushing past . . .
Kimberly Poling with Edwin A. Poling, no doubt headed up to where the ice is thicker.
Eric McAllister precedes her.
And finally Pacific Dawn . . .
. . . coming in from Gravesend Bay, where . .
can anyone explain what part of the gas project–if any–they’ve been working on just off Coney Island’s western tip?
Thanks much to Glen for the first photo above. All others by Will Van Dorp.
