I could also call this “other peoples photos” but here is yesterday’s arrival of the hospital ship as seen from three friends’ perspectives.
Phil Little took this, and referred to it as his Normandy landing shot, an appropriate name given that this asset, arriving with a large support group, marks a surge, a counteroffensive against the invisible foe. Note that the top of WTC1 is obscured, as is most of the VZ Bridge, center right.
To reiterate, Comfort‘s 1000 beds and 12 operating rooms will take overflow from other hospitals, overflow of NON-covid-19 patients. Click here for much more info on the ship, medical facilities and operating life. Click here for video of the hospital ship arriving.
The flotilla is almost to her berth, here passing Hudson Yards.
Renee Lutz Stanley took this one from a pier south of Intrepid while trying very hard to practice social distancing.
Phil calls this the “turn-in.”
This last two come from David Silver, taken looking south.
Cruise ships and hospital ship are roughly the same color, but that color gives a profoundly different impression in each. Comfort with its relatively few “port holes” and glass is a place of intensive inward examination, a place apart, one hopes, for healing.
Many thanks to Phil, Renee, and David for use of these photos. Please do continue social distancing and hand-washing.

Although the pictures are interesting there should have been no one there to take them. Does anyone not understand the urgently needed importance of not leaving your home?
I wish you would not publish pictures that should not have been taken in the future.

Henry- Thanks for your comment. I can assure you that these photos were taken with attention and mindfulness to maintaining the 6′ rule, at least, of distancing, some from the photographer’s front porch, some from an isolated shoreline near the VZ bridge, and some from a public pier but physically distanced from other people out there. I’ve read news reports across the spectrum scolding folks for ignoring the social distancing guidelines, and I would concur that the guidelines must be respected. https://www.uchealth.org/today/what-is-social-distancing-you-can-go-outside/

Perhaps the writer could stay home and post past pictures the writer has in his very large collection. Has the writer stayed at least one fathom of length from the coxswain of the NEWS vessel? The NEWS vessel is a ex USCG 25 foot patrol boat. Meanwhile keep up the great work.

Fred- Thanks for your comment, but a) i have photographic evidence from the news boat that i was at no time on the news boat, and b) those photos show that i was sufficiently isolated from the huddled masses. In fact, when people started congregating near my original location, I moved to at least 100′ from the nearest person. And yes, starting tomorrow, I draw on the archives.

A very smart person in not going on the Press Vessel but rather taking pictures from a safe distance. I take my hat off to you.

In times, where courage is essential, I find it encouraging to see, that even in view of the hitherto unimaginable something can be done and is done. And so, although the ambivalence of feelings, triggered by these pictures is all too obvious, I consider them important. May New York be set free from the curse soon.

Thx, Rembert. I agree. Stay safe, my friend.
