The previous post in this series shows the port in the late 19th century, so I’d say it’s high time to update. This lighthouse dates to 1934, and I’ve long wondered why the buildings have not received a much-needed re-painting.
Oceanis appears not to be a commercial vessel, at least not now, but the hull was surely inspired by something large and seaworthy.
Stephen B. Roman, however, carries her weight among all the hard working vessels on the Lakes. Any guesses what the B. stands for? Answer follows.
Essroc is one of two cement companies delivering to the port of Oswego.
And these ingots regularly delivered by Wilf Seymour and Alouette Spirit? You may see them next as Ford F-series parts stamped out by Novelis Oswego.

The B. is for Boleslav. Stephen Boleslav Roman was a mining engineer.

Tugster –
24 hours later and the bulk carrier, SBI Jive, is still loading. Here are pix of the empty barge moving away and being replaced. At this point the tide is turning and Jive is swinging at anchor.
Moored at pier side in Staten Island is NY Harbor Pilot No1,.
Coming into the harbor is NYPD Launch 621, P/O. Harry Ryman. He was LODD trying to stop a car theft outside his home a few years ago. (*http://tinyurl.com/y9td4zeo )*

The OCEANIS (625638) was built in 1980 by Mikron Inc of Cut-off LA. She’s 65 feet long, and was built as a fish boat. I can’t find her in the 1981 MVUS, but by 1989 she was named CASEY-JEN and was registered as a fishing boat on the East Coast. The NMFS Database shows a former name of PERSHING SR for her. She now appears to be decked out as a party venue, and is normally based in Cheboygan MI.

Will, The lighthouse is owned by city of Oswego. It is on the National Historic Registrary. Somebody needs to get a paintbrush😱
