I put these photos up because not everyone saw them on FB.
I took these photos of Specialist in October of 2010, before she went to Puerto Rico.
Meow Man took the next two yesterday on the KVK as she passed by on a barge after she was raised. RIP.
The bottom two photos used by permission from Meow Man.
The top two by Will Van Dorp.

RIP Specialist Crew!
It will be interesting to read the USCG Report, it appears to be a pinch and roll incident, similar to the incident at the United Fruit Co dock in Camden some years back, which killed a very good friend.
I look forward to reading the tow-master’s description and if I may say so, his reasons for being so close to the static bridge construction. the notice to mariners on line clearly delineates the locations of the work. the river is deep there and more than two miles wide. So why?
I have worked tows on that stretch of the North River and do not recall any cross currents, so being that close seems inexplicable.

Prayers to the families of the workers aboard. I cover the bridge project and blog about it as well, and you are correct about the USCG Regulated Navigation Areas and no-wake, 5-knots zone for the main channel. At this point the project site is abundant with barges, cranes and other equipment as the new bridge is built next to the current bridge.
