Put Cornell into the search box and you’ll see how many posts I’ve done on this 1950 Long Island-built vessel. I even wrote an article for Professional Mariner. Click here for more info on Cornell.
But this post just raises a question . . .if the sunrises over a calm East River and no one is there to see it,
is it still pretty?
I think so. Photos taken at 0630 this morning by Will Van Dorp.

Will, can I email you here at ‘respond to this post by replying above this line’ without clogging up the blog responses?

Thanks for posting these great morning shots of the CORNELL, Will. It brings back a lot of memories for me, when the CORNELL served as the last Flagship of the Ross Towboat Company up here in Boston over at the Fort Point Channel / Northern Avenue Bridge back in the 1970’s, and later on across Boston Harbor towing for BFT. – Jim Gallant.

Was the Cornell ever used as a RR tug? She appears to be a twin to the B&O RR tugs I worked on in the 1960s. Notice the wide flat fender rail where the tires are hanging. That was standard on the RR tugs. Any comments?

Thanks Will. If I had paid a bit more attention I would have seen the LV on the stack and answered my own question. Thanks for the link. I learned a lot about boat handling on the B&O RR tugs.

Great shots. The still water of the early morning all the way to the Manhattan shore.
