Gears have been shifted.
This is January River, ringed by palm trees and peaks
and promising intriguing new sights. Type “other watersheds 11” into the search window and you’ll see I’ve followed my daughter to January river–aka Rio de Janeiro– this year. It looks like this
and this.
What at first I thought was a tall ship coming around the rock turned out to be
unmoving, a rig.
Heavy lifter Hai Yang Shi You bears some unidentified cubes and
Many many more vessels wait on the east side of the bridge that bisects the bay.
More soon. All but the first two fotos by Will Van Dorp.

Wow, that bridge picture with all the ships is stunning! And the woman on the bikini isn’t bad, either 🙂

No. Florida Bar, along with a host of other seaman bars is (or was) on the Rio working waterfront along Praca Maua.
In addition to Florida, there was Scandinavia Bar, Texas Bar and a few others I frequented in that vicinity so many years ago. Open air places where you could grab a drink and a bite to eat during the day while on our lunch hour(s). One had to be careful though as the streets around these places were swarming with “street urchins” looking for change to be handed out or if that didn’t work, to pick your pocket.
I wonder if Harry’s Bar is still in the downtown area? You might remember the robbery of the Royal Mail Train in the UK back in 1963.
One of the robbers, a Ronnie Biggs, absconded to Rio after the robbery and opened a bar there named Harry’s.
In the mid 80’s, I sought out Harry’s bar because I wanted to get a T-shirt to bring back to Fells Point for a friend that owned a bar there named, Harry’s.
Never made it to my destination because I was jumped, mugged, stripped of my clothing and nearly beaten senseless by a dozen or so of the street urchins. Instead of taking a taxi from my hotel on Copacabana where I lived while my ship was in the shipyard for almost eleven months, I foolishly decided to walk through the city alone.
A hard lesson learned.

Geeze, when I think January River, I think of an iced over river near Sault Ste Marie or something. Very cool pictures.
