Here’s a mouthful: behold the quite newly commissioned “French FREMM multi-mission frigate, Aquitaine.”
The blue shed along her starboard side gives away the location . . . that’s Red Hook . . . south end of Brooklyn Bridge park.
Here’s the sum of the parts, at sunrise this morning. For a CGI walk through, click here.
Here’s a frontal view of the stealth frigate. For more info, click here. DCNS was the builder.
All fotos by Will Van Dorp.
Here’s a stealthy French warship that visited three years ago . . . and here are some fotos that include mine of the previously most recent French naval contingent in the sixth boro.

i’d thought of some snarky observations like . . . she just fired a salvo at brooklyn bridge park . . . or she’s about to launch herself up atlantic avenue in the direction of the barclay center . . . but controlled the impulse. could it be steam? heating related? maybe someone can help here.

Probly a fog machine. That’s how they make it stealthy.

Looks like a genset to me, may well be a stealthy one. Possible cooling system problems there.
What I really want to know is: with all the shear on that bow — how the hell does their deck gang lead a line out of that bow centerline fairlead, attach the eye splice end to a heaving line, and get it back to heave ashore. Unless, of course, there is a stealth crane on that bow.

I read window washers have a hard time cleaning modern, curved, glass buildings. One would think it is preferable to fall into the drink, anyday, but this ship did tie up near Gowanus flow…
