As I searched for something else in the 2007-08 foto galleries, I found shots of vessels long gone . . . . I know where specifically some are and see them regularly bearing a new name, a couple here in general I know where they are although I’m unable to picture them, yet others . . . I have nary a clue. One or two here I spotted maybe only once. Today seems an opportune time to bring these to light. If anyone has recent pics, please send them. Unless otherwise stated, all fotos were taken in the sixth boro, which itself has changed in . . . 3 or 4 years . . . or more accurately–land, people, water–is always in flux.
Like Baltic Sea.
Curtis Reinauer (and
Dean … no Franklin)
Little Toot (foto taken in Point Pleasant, NJ),
Francis Turecamo (taken in Waterford, NY),
Eileen McAllister and Responder . . . still with the boom reel,
and finally, the elusive basil barge . . . .
And if you’re feeling generous and flush today, how about we support the PortSide Summer Youth Employment program . . .? Click the icon upper left for info.
Except for the basil barge, all fotos taken a few years back by Will Van Dorp.
In the elusive but deadly department, “ghost bombs” near the VZ bridge???

Will;
I share your sorrow for the gently departed, most of the “Old Hulls” were gone as trades on new construction. This was forced by economics; the old diesels were fuel hungry beasts, Bart Turecamo (Baltimore & Philadelphia) had only one huge wheel and at full tilt took 300 gph light, heavy varied but ran to a 1000 gph at times. We used to top off every second day. The new azipods and tunnel sets sip fuel, are lighter and much more capable, e.g. the Moran with the stern mounted towing drum, only used for loads on a string, which is pretty close to the hardest way to tow safely is virtually unseen anymore. Recall the picture of the Army Brigadier Class that I sent, how close the towing drums are to the deck house. Gramma Lee T’s were designed to go beneath the deck at the house, I don’t know if they were ever installed, I’ve never seen her “outside”.

BALTIC SEA & CORAL SEA are now UGONWAAFOR 1 & UGONWAAFOR 2 sold to Pheranzy Gas, Ltd. Nigeria. FRANCIS E. ROEHRIG is now AEGEAN SEA. JANICE ANN REINAUER should arrive today 2200 hrs Bonny Town Nigeria aboard BLUE MARLIN. She along with sisters DEAN, JOHN, CURTIS, and tug MAVERICK, along with seven barges departed NY 1912 hrs on June 12. INLAND SEA is still listed in K-Sea’s NY fleet. She may be down in Philadelphia, Norfolk, or Baltimore however. Photo #8 shows FRANKLIN REINAUER (ahead), and CURTIS following. FRANKLIN is still with us. JUNE K is now Donjon Marine’s SARAH ANN. JULIET REINAUER is up for sale. Maybe leaving on BLUE MARLIN’s return along with possibly HERCULES, ETHEL TIBBETTS and a few others. Heard a rumor that ZACHERY, FRANKLIN REINAUER, & STEPHEN-SCOTT may be pinned to handle some of the new 27,000 & 60,000 barrel barges. That is only a rumor, nothing firm. They would have similar Beacon JAK coupling systems like K-Sea’s HOUMA, LABRADOR SEA if this project goes forward. BARBARA McALLISTER ex-BOUCHARD BOYS, T.J. SHERIDAN soldiers on in various capacities. She is now 42 years old. I can remember when she was “brand new” in 1969 as T.J. SHERIDAN. I guess along with the tugs, we also get old and outlive our usefulness to a certain degree

INLAND SEA seems to be assigned to Philly for the time being. Also on the Delaware these days: SCOTIA SEA, FALCON (on the sludge barge) and ODIN.
TIMOR SEA appears to have ”flagged out” to the Guyanese registry…..left Philly with vintage barge DBL 3201. JEFF S

Actually I erred in including Barbara McAllister in this post . . .. she’s still a regular in the sixth boro; what disappeared briefly, like a ghost, was my memory. Now that’s spooky!
