This is the first post in the fourth year of the blog, and I’m not telling much about the fotos. Tomorrow I’ll identify what I can. The onliest clue I’ll give is this: all fotos have been taken since November 26 sunrise, and all fotos but one were by tugster. Tomorrow I’ll identify the other photographer.
1. Which ship?
2. Which ship?
3. Which ship lies beyond Vane Brothers Severn?
4. What provenance?
5. Aboard which ship?
6. I actually do not know the name of this vessel or the significance of its colors. Maybe someone does?

Tugster —
Happy Anniversary and Happy Thanksgiving. A couple of answers. The naval vessel with the 62 on the bow is the battleship New Jersey. You questioned the ship with the blue over yellow bands on the stack. Unless I am mistaken, that banding signifies a vessel of Military Sealift Command. There is not enough of the vessel for me to identify it. However, there is a poster of all the current Sea Lift vessels at http://www.msc.navy.mil/mediacenter/posters/smallposter2009.pdf

Forgot to put in the name of the ship with the faded red stack. That is the SS United States. My grandparents took it to Europe when I was just a kid and it was in better shape. I nearly walked onto the freight conveyor! She is currently laid up in Philadephia.

MSC ship is SATURN laid up at Phila. Navy Yard Reserve basin. Built in Britain. Sister SPICA was alongside her till being towed away as a target….same fate that awaits SATURN.

Here is the home page for the SATURN with more detail although it is dated as it does not mention her being taken out of service.

Here is an article on SATURN and SPICA being retired.

They all got most of it already: I can only guess at those I don’t know:
1. SS United States…Oh, she was wonderful.
2. Starboard something control, New Jersey
3. Battleship New Jersey
4. Burned, crunched, and totalled Mazda’s.
5. I do not know…..gosh I feel thick. It’s right there escaping me.
6. MSC Saturn.
