I knew immediately once I saw the name–Lone Ranger–that this vessel had lurked upriver a few weeks, but as it approached showing only a frontal profile, I had as little clue as some folks 399 years ago had when Hudson entered the boro. Nor from the name did I know anything about ownership.
The mystery for me –although reading about Wall Street bonuses for unsuccessful executives provides a clue–is how can a person amass the funds to buy so much personal vessel.
Any ideas on the owner?
He’s one Peter B. Lewis, former CEO of Progressive Insurance. Lone Ranger was originally built in 1973 as deep sea salvage tug Simson.

Yes, for the average tugboat captain like myself, it is almost unfathomable how one becomes wealthy enough to purchase and re-hab a formidable ocean going salvage tug into a luxury yacht.
I remember those Bugsier deep sea boats well…a few times I worked with them in Baltimore and Philadelphia harbors with dead ship tows.
All I can say is Wow!

Hi William. Nice boat. But how small and beautiful it looks the yacht in the third picture 🙂

Wow is correct. She’s powered by 2/4,400-hp Deutz-MWMs.
She’s #39 on the list of the World’s Top 100 privately owned magayachts.
