New York’s sixth boro has its variety of marine traffic and its icons, but this time of year in western Netherlands, a harvest flotilla delights the eyes . . . and wears out Fred Trooster’s camera-shutter finger.  Check out Fred’s fotos here.

Dorothy J. (1982slings  Jill A. Caddell (2011), a new floating drydock extension from Senesco Marine and  through the harbor on Friday . . .  I can’t make out the assist tug.  This foto thanks to John Watson.

Bowsprite hears and transcribes memorable quotes from VHF chatter on the sixth boro;  I need to upgrade my radio before I get such plums.  So I’ll listen in using other sources.

OK . . . some humor on the way out:  “I was just thinking, if it is really religion with these nudist colonies, they sure must turn atheists in the wintertime.”  Will Rogers What Will Rogers conjures up is the realization that the mermaid parade 2011 is only about four months away.  Seems soon.  Mardi Gras is over 30 days away.  Seems far.

What happens in the harbor as the sleet flies?  The same stuff that always happens.  Here Barbara C lighters a tanker aptly named Winter.   Off Winter‘s stern, container vessel NordAtlantic arrives, bound for Global.  Doubleclick to enlarge and see these today.

Maria J (ex-Jesus Saves) . .  .63′ loa (length overall),  you’ve seen her here at least once before;  since that link mentions vhf chatter, you must see bowsprite’s latest creations and transcriptions.   Maria J was quickly overtaken by the three Brants.  Remember, for most fotos, doubleclick enlarges.

Crystal Cutler . .  . 67′ loa, all new and shiny . . .  has been in the harbor now at most . . . three months.

Recently I saw OSG Independence . . . 131′ loa pushing barge OSG 243 .. 557′ loa, in the sixth boro for the first time.

My last post on the Roundup is a catch-all with some video at the end.  It include vessels that just happen to be in the area.  Like Kathleen Turecamo (1968), docked at Port of Albany.

Mame Faye actually works during the Roundup and allows no tours.  I suppose what you see is there what you see.  The major task she performs during the event is driving the barge that carries the pyrotechnics, always a first-rate show by Alonzo.  Mame Faye got over 80 votes this year in the “people’s choice” tug contest, and I hope she wins next year.

Beautiful as an old Land Rover used for agricultural work, this one is nameless and peerless, and for sale.

If it’s still for sale, you could paint it orange and call it Tiger Lily.

I love the H-bitt and deck fittings but I can’t store a boat in my current location and will have to stay

with human-powered boats.  That being said, this is an eye-turner.

Push contests here include:  1.  Decker bested by Gowanus Bay, 2.  Gowanus Bay v. tug44 that feels like porcupine love, 3.  Indignant noises raised by the Sheriff’s boat, 4.   Decker getting pushed nearly to the Canadian border by The Chancellor, 5. Decker besting Atlantic Hunter who then needs the Sheriff to assist, and 6. Toot Toot treating a push-off against The Chancellor as a love-nuzzling fest and the larger boat backing off in … embarrassment?

Donjon’s Empire walks circles and other boats whistle their appreciation and Crow demonstrates its house-raising ability.
