I’ve always found that parts of New York remind me of New England. Which parts you might wonder?
Try . . . the North Fork . . . Greenport, NY, where many vessels were built during most of the first half of the 20th century. I don’t know the story of this very lobsterboat type vessel . . . other than that it could convince me to check if the Department of Health is hiring. Check these boats from Cape Ann, Ma and parts downeast.
This blue skiff, appearing to float on a wave of nets and floats, reminds me of vessels built along coastal NJ. Check here for a 30′ Baykeeper vessel, built in Keyport, NJ.
I love this blue skiff.

Spent a port visit in Greenport back in ’69 or so. Nice place then. Re-visited a few years ago using the cross sound ferry from New London. Still a nice place. I need to go back one more time, at least, and visit the park that used to be the Jacobsen yard, not far from Greenport in Oyster Bay. The port visit was memorable in that in one of my “Duty Officer Makes a Round” tours in the wee small hours I discovered one of our hawser boats, that we were using for liberty runs from our anchored out position, was actually filling alongside due to a broken cooling water hose, and I had to get the duty section up to put the boat on a sling and get it out of the water. There’s nothing quite like passing Revellle at 0230 to endear the duty section to the duty officer….
