Have a good trip. See you again in June.

And thanks for the reminder that if I get a hankering to go work on a big schooner, without it actually being the kind of full summer's commitment that the Adirondack was (albeit one I really enjoyed fulfilling - it didn't get complicated until I started dating somebody in another state, and this year there's the return to kayak instructing, and learning to sail little boats), that there are other ways.

Whitman AND a reflection on anchors...that's a lot. The Whitman is perfect this morning...I can feel the breeze and imagine those schooners.

There used to be an adventure kayaking store in the Union Square area that served Manhattanites planning trips to exotic points around the world (or that's how I imagined it.) About twenty five years ago I bought a small folding anchor for my inflatable raft. I've since canoed and kayaked with the thing, caught my share of bass and perch while secured by it, and now it sits waiting in the garage, wanting only about 50 feet of line and a mission. I'll go grab the thing today just to feel its weight.
