Refresh your memory about other specialty ships here? Now any idea what this one does? It’s currently operating off Jones Beach, or about 20 miles east and a little south of the Narrows.

Does it help if I tell you it’s Giulio Verne? Another clue is that Giulio Verne’s ancestor is Great Eastern. Here is a spectrum of ships designed for the same purpose. As to what it’s doing, I can’t say. Anyone know?

Greetings from a tug operator in San Francisco… The Giulio Verne is currently in the San Francisco Bay Area to lay a power cable between the city of San Francisco and Pittsburg, which is inland towards the head of the Bay. The project will last several months between now and the end of the year 2009. The actual cable arrived by bulk carrier (on the Cielo Di Pisa) and is currently being loaded onto the massive reel that lies on the center of the deck of the Giulio Verne. I enjoyed viewing your blog and thought I would pass on what I know… Ciao.
